Nuremberg ... Tag your it ...

Nuremberg is a large sprawling city that had been fully reconstructed after World War II.

This area had heavy manufacturing for Germany which made it a strategic target by the Allies.  This resulted in more than 90% of Nuremberg being destroyed.

Our tour today focused on an old medieval castle that had never been conquered due to the unique structure of the fortress walls and associated mote.

For reasons not fully understood the castle and its high tower were not touched by air raids during World War II.

Upon leaving the Castle Kevin and Theresa recognized signs that a Hash run had visited the castle only a few days earlier.

Both saw hair arrows directing the runners up an old set of stairs onto a steep wide walk way that rose up to and into the castle area.  Our friends from the SDH3 (San Diego Hash House Harriers), and our friends from SWRH3 (Sir Walter Raleigh Hash House Harriers) groups would be pleased that Rambyte and Mainframe still could follow a trail.

The tour then wondered down into more of the city town were both Lutheran, and Catholic Roman Church’s consumed several city blocks.  See more pictures here.

As the sun was setting the Christmas lights of the city became visible.  In town square the Christmas Market vendors had already set up their small kiosks only to have been informed the day before that all Christmas Markets in Southern Germany are canceled.  The group continued to wander the local streets prior to the Busses arrival to take everyone back to the vessel.  Once upon the vessel a new captain greeted the guests and welcomed them to his boat.  It was at this time we were informed that we had now traveled through all the locks that allowed the ship to slowly climb up river to the top of the area’s mountain range.  From this point on the locks we would enter would provide a sinking feeling as the ship was now headed down the mountain range via the Main River and soon the Rhine.

Theresa started to feel tired and her nose and eyes were all dripping... Thanks Kevin!
